The Tribune's pages are inovative and usually pretty good. |
The Seattle papers aren't owned by Bill Gates, but you'd never know it. It's fun to read their slant on all things Microsoft. |
The Billings Gazette's page is a GREAT Web page for a small market newspaper; plus, I used to work there. The paper itself goes through up and down cycles. Check out the outdoor columnist (Mark Henckel). May be the best in the country. |
|
The Sun Times' page is usually pretty good. And usually informative. Unlike the schizophrenic Sun Times (often). |
Solid journalism plus just a little too much obsession with the entertainment industry. Wonder why? |
The Washington Post is included because it's just good journalism. Both the paper and the web site. |
|
I also used to work at The Missoulian, which is why it's here. It's a good paper; it thinks it's better than it is. |
I like the K.C. Star as a newspaper, although its latest redesign is an abomination upon journalism, plus, I've got a couple friends and former co-workers toiling there. And family in the area, most of whom subscribe. |
Check out the Hartford Courant's site. For being the best designed paper in the U.S., the page is really mediocre. |
A link I stumbled
upon lists the Web's
top 100 Newspaper Pages. Although it's prepared by a
marketing/finance
firm, it's still one heckova list and well worth looking at if you want
to see the variety out there in newspaper web design. There's a
remarkable
amount of good design and well-thought out pages out there. And there
are the others....
Other sites you might
consider are NewspaperLinks.com
and The Newseum's site. Both have
the state-by-state listing of newspaper Web sites. The Newseum's site
also
has about 240 front pages daily from around the world. Way cool. If
that's
your thing. Also check out Newspage
Designer.com. It's where designers (like me) post our work to show
off and/or just be seen.
