MY COLLECTION
My collection peaked at over 120 machines (my wife says  over130) in 2006, from the late 1800s through the early 1930s. However, our move from Illinois to Florida required considerable downsizing. I now have in the neighborhood of 35 machines, some in storage, some on display. I miss my others but life in Florida is on a smaller scale.

And to answer a few questions:

  • Yes, they take up a lot of space
  • Yes, some are REALLY heavy
  • Yes, some are in the garage, some in storage.
  • No, many of them don't work.
  • Yes, many of them do work.
  • Yes, I am trying to repair others.
  • No, I won't be able to repair all of them.
  • No, some never will work.
  • No, I don't do complete restoration or totally rebuild machines. I  believe old, well-used machines should look like old, well-used machines. Only cleaner.
  • Yes, I do use some of them. I used to keep one at the office to use for memos and such. It irritated the younger reporters, who prefer the silence of computer keyboards.
  • Here are a few of the typewriters in my collection:

    Blickensderfer No. 7

    Corona No. 3 (3)

    American

    Remington Portable

    Royal No. 5 'Flatbed'

    Odell No. 2

    Oliver Nos. 3 & 5

    Oliver Nos. 7 & 9

    Pittsburg-Visible
    No.10

    Nos. 3, 5 & 11

    Sun Standard No. 2

    Also
    Others in my collection include:

  • Odell No. 2
  • Red Corona No. 4 Royal No. 10

Hammond No. 12 Remington Noiseless Model Seven (portable)
  • Royal Arrow (my first 'old' machine)
  • Empire (Canadian) National No. 5 Hammond Folding Multiplex

I may not actually have all the above machines. I'm really unsure which machines survived the great purge. At some point, I will get around to taking a full inventory, complete with serial numbers. Until then, this is my best guess.
